The Michigan football team has an annual spring trip. This year, Coach Jim Harbaugh has canceled the Wolverine's trip.  Their destination was going to be one of two places but the Coronavirus that initiated in China has now spread to 40 other countries. The team’s spokesperson was sad to say, “The football team will not be taking an international trip this spring due to the health concerns around the world, most notably coronavirus.”

Instead of having a trip this year, it’s been said that the team players will be participating in community projects. In the past, the team has gone to Italy, France, and this past year they went to South Africa. They hadn’t yet finalized their plans so it wasn’t much of a trouble to cancel the idea. Coronavirus has made its way to more than 80,000 people around the world; 2,770 people have died of it. The team coach is doing his best job protecting his players.

The Japan Sports Agency wanted to make changes to the Sumo March grand tournament because of the coronavirus outbreak. The agency wanted to either close the tournament to fans, postpone it, or cancel it. The ring ceremony is going to take place without the wrestlers and the public may not enter. Two pre-tournament events have already been canceled.

Japan’s sports leagues are concentrating on going against the coronavirus. Japan’s soccer establishment, the J-League, has suspended all games until March 15. The Japan Rugby League postponed 16 games for the upcoming two weekends. The Nippon Professional Baseball will still play its next 72 games but will not be open to the public under any circumstance.

The coronavirus is evidently affecting sports leagues this spring. Spring is a time for new beginnings and nice sunny skies. Spring sports bring happiness because you can be outside in nice warm weather, eating ice cream and watching the game. None of this will be enjoyed if the coronavirus keeps meddling into our lives and scaring the public.
